Dobson Ranch Library THINKspot Addition & Main Library Kids’ Zone

Mesa, Arizona

Libraries should inspire creativity and learning for all ages.

Dobson Ranch Library THINKspot Addition

The public entrance of the existing Dobson Ranch Library is enhanced and updated with the addition of a 1,761 SF THINKspot. With areas to learn, research, collaborate, and create digital content, this modern library amenity provides a comfortable environment where individuals and groups can gather to work on imaginative and creative projects.

Originally proposed as an addition to be tacked onto the back of the existing library, the project team re-imagined the addition as an opportunity to create a new sense of entry, make the Library a destination, enhance existing programs, and revitalize the site.  Care was taken to maintain the indoor/outdoor relationship, create new butterfly gardens to replace those disrupted by the addition, and make the skin transparent so patrons can see the activity inside the THINKspot.

Main Library Kids’ Zone

The first renovation since 1998, the Children’s Library at the Mesa Main Library, provides a great resource for the community to create, experience, and play.

No longer a place to just browse bookshelves, modern libraries need to be a place to attract, engage and inspire patrons of all ages. This new design encourages young patrons to stay, read, play, and participate. The space supports this goal with visually interesting graphics, displays, and built-in structures along with revitalized spaces to support community and City-based programs.

Activity zones, a multi-purpose room, and stack area are organized around a Desert Southwest animal theme, which contributes to growing minds through inspiration, connection, and imagination.
